Once you’re over the hurdles of booking your big day, there will likely be a huge sigh of relief that there are no more decisions to make! But after a brief five minutes of bliss, the reality that the running of the day is now in the hands of others might start to feel a bit scary.
This blog will walk you through, step by step, how our photos will tell your wedding story. We will work with you on your wedding day to ensure we capture all of your special moments and leave out any surprises.
A few weeks before your wedding, we’ll sit down with you for a coffee (or a glass of wine!) to discuss how the photography will fit into your day.
Elliot and I work in tandem which means that, wherever possible, he and I can cover each partner’s morning preparations.
The morning of your wedding is a great opportunity for us to warm up and get everyone comfortable with having us around. You’d be surprised at how quickly everyone forgets we’re there! We aim to blend into the background so that we’re able to capture those truly candid moments
We will discuss our arrival time with you during our pre-wedding chat. Some couples like to have an hour or so to themselves and others like us to be there from the word go so we will tailor your experience to you.
After you’re suited and booted, there’s usually a quiet moment to slip off and capture a portrait of you before you walk down the aisle. The moments leading up to your vows can often be very intimate. They capture the excitement, the anticipation and the joy all in one snap. We will always be mindful of the mix of emotions you’ll be feeling before you say “I do!”, and they often make for the most beautiful photos to look back on.
Elliot and I will both be present at the ceremony, capturing moments from different angles to achieve simultaneous shots from two perspectives. If possible, we will sneak a view from the aisle as you turn to exchange rings too!
We’ll also be working together to capture your wedding guest’s reactions to these magical moments. But, as the ceremony can be one of the most emotional parts of the day, we aim to capture these candid shots as unobtrusively as possible, without getting in the way of your loved ones.
After the ceremony, we set about capturing the classic moments such as the confetti shot as well as the documentary-style photos in between and gather together the whole wedding party for slightly more formal group shots.
During the reception, we will also aim to get some beautiful photos of the speeches, cake cutting and first dance along with candid snaps of your guest’s reactions.
These shots link together in a photographic timeline of your day, helping to remind you of everything that happened and everyone who came. The day will whizz by so quickly for you, and getting to relive this timeline through your photos can be a really magical experience.
The Couple Portrait
When the formal photos are over, we’ll take you away for a moment to let you catch your breath and spend a little time together. We’ll scope the area in advance for some beautiful scenery to make things as seamless as possible.
We often find that the couples’ don’t need directing for these photographs. It’s a naturally romantic time and all you need to do is relax and enjoy your first moments alone as a married couple while we take some beautiful photos from a distance.
Where possible, we try to coincide these special moments with the fading light of the day, just before sunset, which photographers call the ‘golden hour’. This then naturally moves us through to the evening and excitement of the dance floor!
As the evening draws in, we will be there to capture the laughter, the dancing and your evening guests arriving.
Elliot is especially experienced in nightclub and party photography and as the evening progresses, we will mingle among the dancers and capture some of the fun of those truly unscripted moments.
We will be with you right into the evening to capture all the in-between moments of laughter and fun!
We hope this blog post has given you an idea of how we will work with you throughout the morning, day and night to capture your wedding story unfolding. If you have any questions or would like to discuss booking us for your wedding, please don’t hesitate to get in touch below.
